Terms of Service
Last updated:
These terms are a contract between you and YouLegit. They explain what you can expect from the service, what we expect from you, and the rules that apply when things go wrong. Please read them carefully.
1. These terms
These Terms of Service (the “Terms”) form a binding agreement between you (“you”) and [LEGAL_ENTITY_NAME] (ABN [ABN]), trading as YouLegit, of [REGISTERED_ADDRESS] (“YouLegit”, “we”, “us”). By creating an account or otherwise using the service, you accept these Terms and our Privacy Policy.
2. What YouLegit is
YouLegit is an identity-verification and secure-handover service for peer-to-peer marketplace transactions. We verify a user’s identity, issue a pseudonymous YouLegit code, and act as a controlled channel for releasing a pickup address from one user to another only after real-time approval.
YouLegit is not a marketplace, an escrow service, a payment processor for the underlying sale, or a party to any transaction you arrange elsewhere. We do not inspect, value, store, or guarantee any goods, services, or counterparties. We do not provide legal, financial, or safety advice.
3. Eligibility
To use YouLegit you must:
- Be at least 18 years old and have legal capacity to enter into contracts;
- Not be the subject of relevant sanctions, and not appear on a block-list we are required to honour;
- Use the service only where it is lawful for you to do so.
4. Accounts & security
- You must provide accurate information when you sign up and keep it up to date.
- You are responsible for keeping your credentials confidential and for any activity that occurs under your account.
- We bind sessions to the device that created them. Approving a handover requires a session on a registered device and, on mobile, your device’s biometric or PIN.
- Tell us as soon as you suspect a compromise by emailing support@youlegit.com.
5. Verification
Identity checks are performed by a third-party verification provider. We may decline to verify you, re-verify you, or suspend your access if a check fails, if the results appear inconsistent, if we have reasonable grounds to suspect fraud, or where required by law. We retain only the minimised attribute set described in the Privacy Policy.
6. YouLegit codes & share tokens
- Your YouLegit code is a pseudonymous identifier you can share in marketplace chat to prove you have been verified.
- Share tokens are time-limited and revocable. You can rotate or revoke a token at any time from your account.
- Do not share your codes or tokens with anyone you would not transact with. Treat them as you would a phone number you have given out.
- We may revoke, rotate, or invalidate a code or token where we reasonably believe it has been misused.
7. Handovers & address access
- A handover is created when a counterparty pastes your YouLegit code into the service and starts a verification request.
- The pickup address is released to the counterparty only after you approve the handover in real time.
- An approved address-access grant expires two hours after approval. Re-viewing after expiry requires a new approval.
- Counterparties see your verification status and a receipt reference. They do not see your legal name or other identifying attributes unless you separately consent.
8. Fees, payments & refunds
Pricing is shown on our pricing page and at the point of purchase. In summary:
- Buyers pay a one-time identity-verification fee on signup. This fee covers the cost of running the identity check.
- Sellers pay a per-handover success charge. The charge is authorised when the handover is created and captured only when the buyer approves the handover. If the handover is declined, cancelled, or expires, no charge is captured.
- Payments are processed by Stripe. We never see or store your card number.
- To the extent permitted by law, the verification fee is non-refundable once the identity check has been performed. Where a verification fails for reasons attributable to us, we will refund the fee.
Nothing in these Terms is intended to exclude, restrict, or modify any rights you have under the Australian Consumer Law or any other law that cannot be lawfully excluded.
9. Acceptable use
When using YouLegit you must not:
- Impersonate another person or misrepresent your identity;
- Use YouLegit to obtain a pickup address for harassment, stalking, intimidation, or any other unlawful purpose;
- Attempt to circumvent rate limits, abuse the verification flow, or coerce another user into approving a handover;
- Scrape, reverse engineer, or run automated tools against the service except through a documented API where we have permitted it;
- Use YouLegit to facilitate the sale of unlawful goods or services, or where its use is prohibited by your local law;
- Interfere with the security of the service, including the audit log, encryption controls, or rate limits.
10. Reporting & blocking
If another user behaves improperly, report it through the in-app report flow or email support@youlegit.com. You can also block a user, which prevents them creating verification requests against your code. We investigate reports and may suspend or terminate accounts in response.
11. Suspension & termination
We may suspend or terminate your access if you breach these Terms, if we are legally required to, or if we reasonably believe continued access poses a safety, fraud, or security risk. Where practicable we will tell you why. You can close your account at any time through your account settings; closure does not relieve you of obligations that arose before closure, and we will retain records to the extent legally required.
12. Disclaimers
Identity verification reduces but does not eliminate the risk of fraud or misconduct. You remain responsible for deciding whether to transact with any counterparty and for the safety of any in-person meeting. To the maximum extent permitted by law, the service is provided “as is” and “as available”, and we disclaim all implied warranties.
Where the Australian Consumer Law provides non-excludable consumer guarantees, and our service is one to which those guarantees apply, our liability for failure to comply with such a guarantee is limited (at our option) to re-supplying the service or paying the cost of having it re-supplied, except where the law does not permit such limitation.
13. Limitation of liability
Subject to section 12 and to any liability that cannot be excluded or limited by law, our total aggregate liability to you arising out of or in connection with these Terms or the service — whether in contract, tort (including negligence), under statute, or otherwise — is limited to the total fees you paid us in the twelve (12) months preceding the event giving rise to the liability.
We are not liable for indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, or for loss of profits, revenue, goodwill, data, or opportunity, even if we have been advised of the possibility of such loss.
14. Indemnity
You agree to indemnify and hold us harmless from any claim, loss, or expense (including reasonable legal fees) arising out of your misuse of the service, your breach of these Terms, or any dispute between you and a counterparty that is not caused by our breach of these Terms or our negligence.
15. Changes
We may update these Terms as the service evolves. When we do, we update the “Last updated” date and, for material changes, notify affected users by email or in-app. Continuing to use the service after a change means you accept the updated Terms. If you do not accept a change, you may close your account.
16. Governing law
These Terms are governed by the laws of New South Wales, Australia. The courts of New South Wales, Australia have non-exclusive jurisdiction over any dispute arising out of or in connection with these Terms, except that nothing in this clause prevents either party from seeking urgent interlocutory relief in any court of competent jurisdiction.
